Hello Instinct Solar customers,

Please read the instructions below to update the software for your Instinct Solar device. We've made some changes to how we deliver beta updates for our customers, so this forum post is now the primary resource for reading the change log notes – they are not available on another webpage. We look forward to your feedback!

17.50 Change Log Notes (changes since 17.00):

  • Improved barometer outlier data handling.
  • Fixed an issue where an Expedition activity tracklog could be lost if the device shuts down.
  • Fixed an issue where distance units for swim workouts would not show in meters/yards.
  • Fixed an issue where wrist heart rate could not be enabled during an activity.
  • Fixed potential crash during pool swimming activities.

New Software versions listed are in red.

  • System Software17.50
  • GPS: 5.40
  • BLE/ANT: 3.02
  • SNS: 18.00

Instructions for updating software:

  • Download the .zip folder containing the update HERE
  • Connect the watch to your computer.
  • Unzip and copy the included gupdate.gcd file to the Garmin folder on your watch.
  • If there is a SensorHub_XXXX folder, copy the GUP3467.GCD to the Garmin\RemoteSW folder of your watch.
  • Disconnect the watch from the computer and it will prompt you to update software.

For any issues that you encounter, please send an email to [email protected]. In your email please include the software version, and a detailed description of your issue, along with any steps to reproduce. Please note that you may not get a response to the email unless we need more information on the issue you report.

  • The altimeter in auto mode don't lock causing significant drift.

Could you post a video demonstrating it? It could help the developers fixing the issue. The best it would be in the way described in my previous post:

customize the Data Screens of an indoor activity (such as for example yoga or cardio, not floor climbing!), adding a new screen, where you add fields for the timer, the elevation, the barometric pressure, and also the temperature (yes, a sudden change of temperature will cause a pressure/elevation drift too). Then make a video how the values change in the time, post it here, and send it to the beta team at [email protected]
  • Good morning,

I have installed this release and have not been able to upgrade the module BLE/ANT to 3.02. Is stuck with 3.01.

    What I have tried:

    1. From 16.92 following the procedure suggested and updated to 17.50 but still 3.01
    2. Perform a hard reset and repeat it didn´t upgraded again
    3. Downgrade to 17.00 and perform a hard reset and install again 17.50 but still 3.01

Let me know what can I try.

    Regards.

  • Today's example: After the night calibration, the watch shows the correct height (13m - I live on the first floor in a city 10m above sea level). After a few hours of inactivity, with the watch always in the same position, the altitude drops to about 8 m. I go to the office (on the ground floor and at a distance of about 700m from my house) and the altitude drops to -1m. After a few hours of office work the altitude continues to drop down to -6m. As a result, the barometer also begins to show unusual fluctuations. I tried with factory reset, but the problem still exists. I also point out that by calibrating the barometer at a known pressure (in my case 2 hPa lower than the values measured by the nearest aeronautical military weather station) the barometric trend arrow points down after 10-15 min for the next three hours . So with every manual or automatic calibration. I bought this watch mostly for its barometer and altimeter functions, but that's not good at all. As soon as possible I will try to put some photos. This is the same issue that i've noticed about the behavior of trend arrow:

    forums.garmin.com/.../after-calibrating-the-barometer-the-trending-arrow-is-pointing-down-15min-after-every-altimeter-calibration

I also note that it is not possible to restore the barometer value to the factory state without resetting the whole clock.

  • i copied file gupdate.gcd file to the Garmin folder, but when Disconnect the watch from the computer, nothing happened. only compass work normally, baro, alti, thermometer died

  • After a few hours of inactivity, with the watch always in the same position, the altitude drops to about 8 m.

That might be because of the change of the morning temperature. Garmin watches are not temperature-compensated. From the document Barometric Altimeter Accuracy of Fitness Watches | Garmin Customer Support:

    Changes in Ambient Air Temperature
Since barometric altimeters are not temperature-compensated, changes in ambient air temperature can affect altimeter accuracy. If drastic changes in ambient temperature are experienced, calibrating the altimeter will restore accuracy.

Later, when you move, there may be multiple factors playing a role - if an activity (i.e. Walk) was started and the auto-calibration option was enabled, then a new calibration is being done at the beginning of the activity. Temperature changes play a role again too (especially if you are entering airconditioned or heated rooms). Then the combination of moving patterns, the GPS availability, and the barometric pressure gradient (including sudden changes in closed rooms) may lead to a false recognition of the altimeter/barometer mode. If you know you do not change the altitude significantly, set rather the watch to the barometric mode, instead of using the auto option.

  • What about the arrow bug showed in this report?

    forums.garmin.com/.../after-calibrating-the-barometer-the-trending-arrow-is-pointing-down-15min-after-every-altimeter-calibration

    Any chance to fix it?

I also have this bug and it's very annoying.

  • 17.50 public release is out now and available for update via OTA and GC.

  • The step graph (not the step count) on the default watch face still freezes every day at 4PM until it resets at midnight. It's been two years Garmin. This is never getting fixed, is it?

  • still i didn't receive the update.when will the update come?

  • Same here. Still waiting...
