Instinct Solar - 16.91 Public Beta

Hello Instinct Solar customers,

Please read the instructions below to update the software for your Instinct Solar device. We've made some changes to how we deliver beta updates for our customers, so this forum post is now the primary resource for reading the change log notes – they are not available on another webpage. We look forward to your feedback!

16.91 Change Log Notes:

  • Improved altimeter accuracy.
  • Fixed potential issue where the battery mode would revert to default during an activity.
  • Fixed potential issue where the backlight would not timeout in an Expedition.

New Software versions listed are in red.

  • System Software: 16.91
  • GPS: 5.40
  • BLE/ANT: 3.01
  • SNS: 18.00

Instructions for updating software:

  • Download the .zip folder containing the update HERE
  • Connect the watch to your computer.
  • Unzip and copy the included gupdate.gcd file to the Garmin folder on your watch.
  • If there is a SensorHub_XXXX folder, copy the GUP3467.GCD to the Garmin\RemoteSW folder of your watch.
  • Disconnect the watch from the computer and it will prompt you to update software.

For any issues that you encounter, please send an email to [email protected]. In your email please include the software version, and a detailed description of your issue, along with any steps to reproduce. Please note that you may not get a response to the email unless we need more information on the issue you report.

    Still incredibly wrong and way too high intensity minutes. Today during the workday instinct solar on the left wrist 106 intensity minutes and tactix Delta on the right wrist 23 intensity minutes. That's almost 5x more than the tactix. Garmin, what is going on ? Garmin-Chris has already answered over 4 weeks ago that the problem is forwarded to development.

    Thank you for the post and I apologize for the delay. I can confirm that our engineers are aware of the reports and are actively working towards a fix.

    Is anybody recognizing the following issues:

    1. Problems with the notification Vibration.

    2. Problems with syncing, i.e. Alarms.

    3. Problems with the battery status. After charging the battery status is not changing. Shows 100% for a whole day. Changed after restart.

    Hi Luke,

    I have followed your instructions and System SW has been updated from 16.50 to 16.91 but SNS is still in 13.00.

    Is that OK?

    You have to put the GUP3467.GCD from the SensorHub_1800 folder into the RemoteSW folder on your Garmin watch. In an early version of the beta the folder was missing.

    Hi 4241327,

    Problem solved.

    I have copied the GUP3467.GCD file into the Remote SW folder but didn´t work, even when update dialog appeared after unplugged from PC.

    So I did a soft reset and copying both, the gupdate.gcd and the GUP3467.GCD solved the issue.

    Track recording and altimeter summation with barometric altimeter really works bad with this software version.

    Yesterday I did a skiing tour: 1650 total meters of altitude, nearly no meters downhill (while ascending).

    The recorded activity shows 1854 m ascent and 155 m descent.
    The gps track (yes I know, this is more inaccurate) shows +2085 m and -387 m.

    For the second part, the descent which I recorded separately, 1837 m descent and 269 m ascent where recorded with barometric altimeter. There were not 10 meters to step uphill.
    With gps track 1989 m down and 419 m up were recorded.

    So basically, altimeter is still not working correctly? Do you have comparison to 16.50 and 16.00?
