PROBLEMS FOR ALTITUDE READ!!!

many problems for altitude reading, I used the calibration by DEM a few times it worked but out of nowhere it showed inconsistency, is there someone responsible for the watch support to view this?

  • support garmin -.-

    Dereck:altimeter problem version 16.50

    Dereck:hello

*****:Hello Dereck. I am sorry to hear you are having trouble with the altimeter. What is occuring?

Dereck:Good afternoon, sorry for my english, after the 16.50 update I and some people on the forum are having inconsistency in the altitude data.

*****:What trouble are you having with the altimeter?

Dereck:presents a negative reading, very unrealistic.

Dereck:my stopped watch shows instability in reading too

******:How much is this off by?

Dereck:after the clock update to version 16.50

******:Dereck, what I am asking is, how much is the elevation reading off by when you check it.

Dereck:the previous version of the software did not have this problem.

******:How often are you calibrating the elevation?

    Dereck:yes

Dereck:the calibration by DEM is more stable but by GPS it is unfeasible

******:How often are you calibrating the elevation? And how much is the elevation off by?

Dereck:the frequency, basically in the last hours I tried several, at this moment I am at sea level, but sometimes there is a difference of 50 meters denied.

Dereck:on the garmin forum in the watch model area several people are having the same problem after the update.

******:While I understand that you noticed this after the update. It is not uncommon to se altimeter concerns, even with previous versions. Since this started, have you tried cleaning the altimeter sensor port? This is found on the back of the watch. For this you will want to submerge the watch in warm water. Then rinse this under the faucet. Shake loose the excess water. Then try the calibration again.

*****:Since this is an open air sensor, it is common for this to become blocked from sweat etc.

*****:You have been idle for some time now. Is there anything further I can assist you with?

******:You appear to have left this chat, I hope that I was able to help you today. Please re-contact us if you require further assistance.

  • TL;DR: Downdate to 16.00.

From my experience, the problem is this unfortunate attitude at Garmin that there 'is no problem', because 'it's only a few people' etc etc (cue the fanboys), and otherwise 'tech are on it', maybe or maybe not or maybe in a few months time etc etc.

Again, from my own experience, support know very little about valid issues raised in this forum, apart from their superficial own watch use and the telescripts they follow.

The altimeter problem since 16.50 is well documented, I wrote a whole sermon here:

    forums.garmin.com/.../the-unsatisfactory-altimeter-calibration-change-from-15-00-16-00-to-16-50-shows-that-garmin-should-listen-and-beta-test-more

Anyone simply using this software version even for a day will find the bug, but still, WE, the banana software beta testers, are expected to describe our problems to tech. It's crazy, the people on tech support should be in these forums daily so they know what they are talking about. It's all upside down, and ridiculous, but that's how group-think works. It's Darwinism. It's not even bad intent, it's a kind of reluctance that prioritises other issues than those of the customer.

The Instinct Solar is a great watch, and there is none comparable from other companies. So make the best of it. Downdate to 16.00 and be happy. Also, it's nice that Chris actually lets people like me state these critical opinions.

(BTW, I would redact the support agent's name, otherwise your post will probably be deleted.)
