Updated to new Explore version. Then, all my beloved waypoints and tracks on the Instinct were deleted. Only after putting them into a collection were they synced back. Uncool experience.

I never got any answer in the Explore forum in the past, so I am posting here. Title says it all.

I updated to a new version of Explore for Android (3.1). Then, after syncing watch and phone, all my beloved waypoints and tracks on the Instinct were completely GONE. Only after putting them into a collection on Explore AND updating the Instinct from 15.00 to 16.50 were they synced back from the phone to the watch. Explore was set to 'sync all' the whole time. Uncool experience.

Bottom line: There are people in this world who don't update firmware to the newest version automatically and don't sync everything to Garmin cloud, so think it very uncool when all their data is suddenly ONLY in one place, e.g. on their phone. Import and export of waypoints and tracks via Explore is mostly not working anyway, so unless you want to use USB all the time, this kind of almost-data-loss is not nice.

Thanks.

  • Explore should definitely not be deleting your waypoints when you update the APP. I am sorry it took place and you had to reload them.

  • I agree, Chris, thanks. After updating Explore, I was basically forced to also update my watch. In the end, it seems Explore has a syncronisation bug.

But much worse is that altimeter / barometer calibration bug. It's across the complete line of Garmin watches. They should really take that seriously. The new Fenix beta partly seems to adress it. I'm just happy I was able to roll back to 16.00.

  • I just sent you a 2nd direct PM regarding both of your threads on the v16.50 issues. I am gathering reports on the issues being reported on v16.50 so they are escalated to our engineering team as quickly as possible. Thanks again for taking the time to report the issues you are coming across so we can resolve them.

  • You're welcome. Thanks for looking into this.
