Compass True north setting.

Question.
How is the watch obtaining the reference magnetic declination for the COMPASS widget for the TRUE NORTH setting? How often? If for example I fly to Thailand do I need internet connection for my phone and how long does it take to update?

My experience indicates that the declination is calculated based on last known GPS location independent of any phone connection. It is immediate. So in your hypothetical, no, you would not need an internet…
