Instinct Solar Does not count steps during Hike Activity

Using the Walk Activity the steps taken are added to the daily total.  Same happens when no activity is chosen and the watch automatically detects you are walking.  However, when you choose the Hike Activity the steps you take do not add to your daily total.  Why?  I have hiked 10 miles in a day and had less than 4000 steps for that same day.  Makes no sense.

  • A Hike activity is treated no differently than a Walk activity for steps. However, your arm must still be swinging in a normal stride motion during your hike for the accelerometer to pickup your steps taken during the activity.

My Garmin Watch is Not Accurately Counting Steps

FWIW, my Instinct Solar Tactical adds steps taken during a Hike Activity to my daily total - same as a Walk Activity.

I think Garmin - Chris might be on to the reason why you are having no luck.  For example, if you use a hiking pole held in the hand on the same arm as your watch, far fewer steps will be recorded - but distance, pace, etc. will be unaffected.
