[BUG REPORT] Intensity minutes are wrongly calculated

Hi all,

I have my Instnct Solar since august. I correctly set my HR zones according to my max HR. Also, I chose to calculate weekly intesity minutes according to my HR zones and not Automatic mode. I set moderate intensity at Zone 2 and vigorous intensity at Zone 4. The problem is that Instinct seems to calculate those minutes according to the automatic mode. For example, today I went for a run (https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/8015918565): as you can see, 19 minutes in Zone 3 and 20 minutes in Zone 4. However, from the daily summary I see moderate intensity 2 minutes and vigorous intensity minutes 42.

  • I am sorry you are having an issue.

    Please try the following:

    - Hard Reset: Hold down your top left CTRL button until your watch powers off then let go.

    - Reset Settings: Go to the Settings > System > Reset menu and select "Delete Data and Reset Settings"

If you continue to have an issue with intensity minutes, please reach out to Outdoor Product Support in your region.

  • as you can see, 19 minutes in Zone 3 and 20 minutes in Zone 4.

In order to accumulate any intensity minutes at all, you need to CONSISTANTLY achieve a load ABOVE threshold for at least 10 minutes. If you fall below the threshold before reaching 10 minutes, the time will start counting again and you will not reach a single intensity minute.

When using heart rate zones, you will earn intensity minutes credit when you reach or exceed 10 consecutive minutes* of activity where your heart rate is at or above the heart rate zones that you have set for moderate or vigorous intensity.“

    So

    10 minutes CONSISTANTLY above = 10 minutes
9:59 above then 1 second below = not a single minute of intensity.

The total time of the zones alone does not tell you how many intensity minutes you have reached, because every drop in between is important to know.

As you can see, your zone 4 is set from 155bpm.

For a long time you are just at the lower end of zone 4.
For example, from 15:44 you are above it, but at 18:08 you are already just below it again. So from there on the time starts to count AGAIN new  for Zone 4 intensityminutes.

Further, it should also be noted that intensity minutes double at high heart rate.

Performing a more vigorous activity resulting in a high heart rate can double your credit minutes, allowing you to meet your weekly goal faster.“

I would NOT suggest a reset of the device.

I know excatly how it works. The point is that Instinct counts the minutes from 0:00 to 14:10 also as virogous activity, them being constantly in my Zone 3 for all the time (you can zoom in), instead of showing them as moderate activity.

They should double only in the vigorous activity "zone" (4 or 5, as I set it). I did have a Fenix 6 for a few weeks and minutes were calculated correctly there.

Also, I can share few activities recorded with my Fenix 6 where intensity minutes are calculated correctly (even spending 6 minutes in Z3, 1 minute in Z4, 3 minutes in Z3 again reports 9 minutes as moderate and 1 minute as vigorous).

I just found out that Intensity minutes are not reported in the activity itself for Instinct, but for Fenix they were. Maybe with Instinct these are calculated only from Garmin Connect?
