Solar Instinct Crashing randomly

When trying to start an activity, the watch just crashes. Also noticed that it was crashing everytime i would get a notification from my phone. Turned smart notifications off, seemed to help  for a day then just started crashing at random times.

Have already done full resets and software updates...

  • According to what I have been through with my watch, the factor causing this issue is the battery.
The power or voltage of the battery is not strong enough to operate sudden multiple functions and make the watch automatically shut down.

  • I got the same offer; they called it a 'repair fee'.  The amount is only a bit more than they were going to charge when I had a problem with my previous watch. At that time I thought better to put the money towards a new watch and bought the Instinct Solar. This time I put the money towards a different brand with a 2 year warranty.

  • I am sorry you are having the issue. Please reach out to Outdoor Product Support in your region.

  • I was having the same issues. Contacted the product support, sent a file they requested, then they sent me a new one.  Easy Peasy!, Thank you Garmin!

  • My instinct solar is crashing on a regular basis now. Does anyone know the reason for this. Think I might go old school and get a casio

  • I am sorry there is an issue. I have not personally seen any pattern for a restarting Instinct or Instinct Solar watch. Both use the same core software except your watch solar charges too. It is for that reason I recommend ensuring your watch software is fully up to date and if so, reach out to Outdoor Product Support in your region.

  • Mine has been doing the same. Just randomly shuts down. Reset it multiple times no difference at all. Seems like as the new software comes out it breaks the watch one release at a time. Even my solar charging doesn't work as it should.

Just wanted to add to this thread that even with the software updates of Dec 2022, my instinct solar crashes randomly and sometimes doesn't turn back on (usually at 50% battery). The only way I can get it back on is to charge it again.

These issues are definitely software related as my watch is still in good condition, I still use it for the same activities...I'm surprised Garmin doesn't get a bad rep for their poor software rollouts. A £200+ watch made unusable due to bad software released by their developers.

Why not give us an option to lock in at the software version we want? .

  • I sent mine back and they sent me another back within a week. It looked brand new so perhaps do the same?

If you would like to keep a current software update and discontinue updating your software, you have the option.

On your watch, go to Settings > System > Software Update and disable your software updates. You will now no longer be sent each new software update if your watch is connected to your Connect Mobile APP.

If you sync your watch through Garmin Express when you directly plug it into your computer, Garmin Express will always automatically download the newest software to your watch during the sync process to Garmin Connect web. However, you can delete the software update file. It is found in your Garmin folder and is is called gpupdate. As long as you delete the file, your watch will no longer have the update file to find and prompt to install when you unplug your watch and turn it back on.
