Can Instinct Solar collaborate with Handhelds?

Since Instinct Solar doesn't have Map inside, I want to use my GPSMAP66s to create a navigation track and send it to my Instinct Solar.

You may think this is unnecessary because I could just use handheld to navigate. But I'm concerned with the battery life. Instinct can get power from sunlight while the handheld cannot. So I want to use handheld to navigate as my last resort.

  • Your Instinct Solar, along with our other outdoor watches, do not have the ability to ANT+ their courses, routes, or tracks across from our GPS handhelds.

The communication your Instinct Solar does have with our GPS handhelds arrives through widgets using ANT+ with specific handhelds. Those  specific device widgets seen are Dog Track, VIRB, and inReach.

Regarding moving routes from your GPSMAP 66S to your Instinct Solar watch, there is no direct method. You will need to remove your routes and tracks off your GPSMAP and then import them into the Explore webpage at explore.garmin.com.

You can remove them first using Basecamp, export what you want back out of Basecamp, then import them into the Explore webpage and sync  them to your Instinct Solar. There is also an Explore APP but you will not use it between your GPSMAP and Instinct Solar. It will still be useful for waypoints and courses using your Instinct Solar.

  • I have used Explore to sync waypoints and courses between devices (GPSMap 64/fenix 6/Instinct) without using Basecamp as an intermediary.

Here is the method I use:

First sync the GPSMap to Explore.  In the app (web or phone), select the waypoints and/or courses/tracks, then map the item to both the GPSMap and Instinct sync collections.  Then use your phone to sync your devices.  Then both devices will now contain the waypoints and courses/tracks.  No Basecamp needed.

  • Thanks a lot. I have tried and it worked.

  • Thanks for the information. But will Garmin launch new devices that can transfer routes and tracks between outdoor watches and handhelds directly? This function is really convenient and should be favored by lots of people.

  • Thank you for your request. It is impossible to say but I will be happy to pass your suggestion to our engineers to consider.
