Pool crashes

Version 16. Still crashes in a pool swim activity, random crashes at 1000, 500 and 250 yards. Not Happy!

  • Updated July 21st, 2022:

The new v17.50 software update resolves this issue. It is not on full release but will continue to rollout until at 100% release to everyone.

  • As long as my watch is away from my mobile or the BT is disabled on my mobile, no crashes in pool swimming.

    I do about 2000-2500m/swim and about 4-5 swims/day.

  • after setting up a power mode for pool swim activity with disabled phone connection no restarts on today swim, so definitely depends on phone connection

  • Same here. Funny thing with only phone BT disabled I still experienced crashes (one today at 750 yards).

With custom power mode disabling phone no crashes thusfar (3/3 swims now).

  • can I ask you if crashes happened daytime or nighttime? Before setting custom power mode, I was blaming backlight, because my watch never crashed during my saturday morning swim, with phone in range.

  • Do not swim nights, crashes always during the day

  • Has anybody managed to film it happening? This has been happening to me continuously for months now and I only bought the watch in September. I was fiddling with the watch after trying the new power mode like the comments suggested and it cut out. I'm sitting at home and it done it. Now I did try again, filming it but instead of the usual crash and reboot happening my watch completely froze for 20 minutes which I have all on video. Months, some people over a year, this problem needs fixed as I bought my watch for swimming and I can't even do that. Everyone here should have this ability and they don't and have been done out of their money for something Garmin obviously can't be bothered to fix. Is there a way to upload the video. Also, maybe other people try videoing their watches and emailing it to Garmin to see what they do when they crash.

  • Instinct Solar version 16.50 today crashed after 1000m pool training activity. Phone was away into locker, so I do not believe it was BT.

  • My understanding is that if your pool swim activity profile has a phone connection enabled, then that may be the cause of the crashing, even if your phone is out of range (as in your case). I think that you may need to edit your pool swim activity profile to disable the phone connection.

I have not tested this, but this is my understanding from reading the proposed work around.

  • I do confirm what MORTALWOMBATUK saying, you need to create a power profile excluding phone and associate it to pool profile.
