GPS

Hi

My watch gps hasn't been able to record activities once I go under canopy (which vegetation is not even very thick).

Is there any settings or way that I can check why it's not working? My friends who are using other Garmin series don't have such issues.

Software is up to-date.

  • I had also struggled with the non-solar Instinct to consistently track under moderate to heavy canopy.  Would significantly throw off my run distances.  Not sure there is much you can do other than use the GNSS settings (Glonass/GALILEO) appropriate for the expected time of your activity.  You can plan ahead as to which and how many satellites will be overhead by using:  https://www.gnssplanningonline.com/#/skyplot

  • GPS signals coming from the Navstar satellite constellation is very weak, and cannot pass through water or water-rich organic tissues like tree leaves. That's why it's easy to lose GPS lock in the woods. The buildings in the city also impedes reception. You should see large part of clear skies where you stand for proper reception.
