Can someone confirm that Running Dynamics is NOT compatible or possible with the Instinct Solar?

Can someone confirm that the Running Dynamics Pod is NOT compatible with the Instinct Solar, e.g. it won't show vertical data or balance data. Similarly, the HRM Pro Strap's ability to record running dynamics also won't work? I am asking as I would like to improve accurancy of my sensors, but do not want to invest into sensor's that generate data that the Instinct won't be able to record.

  • Going by the Garmin | Compare page, it is not compatible with Running Dynamics, regardless of the sensor.

  • Thanks! Just starting out on this, so had no idea about the Compare Page! Thanks! Any idea if getting an HRM Pro Strap will circumvent the problem, as it records the data as its own standalone device?

HRM PRo is an independent device, hence it will deliver the running dynamics data. (no VO₂max and related features, though!).

  • Yes, thank you so much! Saw another post reply of yours, which pointed me in the right direction already. Now my only question is: if you run with the Instinct and an HRM pro, will it still send the data to the the instinct, so you can at least VIEW (rather than also record) the live measurement from the chest strap on the watch, or will it continue to show the watch's built-in HRM data because the Instinct still really isn't compatible, and so will only show you the HRM Pro data later or on your smartphone when you download it to your Garmin Connect?  Questions over questions?

  • The HRM broadcasts the HR in the usual way too, so you can link it with Instinct, and read the live HR with it (except for swimming).

I don't have the HRM-Pro to confirm, but according to this review it WILL NOT provide running dynamics data when not connected to a watch with running dynamics support.

  • Cheers! Very helpful! Thanks a bunch!

Frankly told, I do not have it either, but what I understood from the review, is that HRM Pro will not provide the Running Dynamics data to a non-compatible watch over ANT+ in real-time. So far we agree.

However, HRM Pro can be connected to the Garmin Connect app directly, and can offload the data to the GC account without the asistance of the watch. And the main purpose of HRM Pro is, that it can be worn without the watch, and synced independently.

The review at Runningxpert tells among others the following:

"The different data is uploaded to the Garmin Connect App, where you can see a list of all dynamics and analyze them yourself afterwards.

That told, I have no warranty that it really does it.

  • You guys are great! Thanks!

Well, so far we have no definite confirmed conclusion, so let's hope someone with HRM Pro and Instinct can confirm or deny the availability of the RD with this combination. You could also call the Customer Support, though I am afraid that the first-level support person won't know it either, or will disinform you Slight smile May be easier to go to a local store selling them, and testing it directly in the store. Or buying it, and returning, if it does not provide the RD standalone.
