Instinct Solar - 12.20 Public Release Candidate

Hello Instinct Solar users,

We have new beta software ready for your upcoming adventures!

This update is recommended for users with 12.10 and experiencing buttons becoming unresponsive.

Please read the 'notes' and 'installation instructions' in the 'Updates and Downloads' page found in the link below. We look forward to your feedback!

Note: Please allow for the updates to propagate across all servers. There is no need to post that the link does not work. It will after a bit of patience.

12.20 Change Log Notes:

  • Fixed an issue where the device may seem unresponsive the next morning after updating software overnight.

For any issues that you encounter, please send an email to [email protected]. In your email please include the software version, and a detailed description of your issue, along with any steps to reproduce. Please note that you may not get a response to the email unless we need more information on the issue you report.

  • (repost from the Instinct forum, since it is relevant here too)

Thanks for the update. However, at least a few words of apology from Garmin for the f**k-up in the v12.10 would be really appreaciated. Posting the update without any excuse, makes me feel Garmin does not consider the issue serious at all, and is happy to continue in the same way of chaining one buggy version release after another. Not speaking about other dramatic IT mishaps in the near past. No apology, means no chance for a change in the attitude.

  • As far as I know, v12.10 was a public release candidate...it wasn't an official update...you do know what a release candidate is right?  It's not an official release and may contain bugs...flash at your own risk. This isn't anything new.

  • It was, but instead of posting update on the forum with information, Garmin just removed whole post about the software update... :-/

  • Yes, v12.10 was first a Release Canditate beta, and it was operating properly. But then, as wrote, the v12.10 beta RC was released as the public v12.10 (without changing the version number, just removing the RC), and started to roll out to Instinct and Instinct Solar devices, without any user intervention. Fortunately Garmin halted the roll-out, and removed the v12.10 PR thread a half a day after the bug reports started to accumulate.

  • If I have my watch set to Settings > System > Software Update > Auto Update (on)  would the public releases automatically install? I have this set to off because some of these releases seem half-baked and I'd rather only install a production release.

  • If I have my watch set to Settings > System > Software Update > Auto Update (on)  would the public releases automatically install?

Public Release will install automatically, but this Public Release Candidate won't.

  • Phew that's relief, I was about to send mine back because I thought it had broken (only way to get buttons to work was to press light, then back, then it would work for a bit)

  • I spoke too soon, I just recorded an activity walk, and now (I saved it ok) and now no button apart from the light works, and that's a case of press light goes on (and stays on) until you press the button again, no other button is doing anything. I'll keep holding down buttons until something happens and perhaps try a reset.

  • Hmm just noticed, my entire display is frozen at 6.06.57 (now it's 6.16)

  • I just connected my watch to recharge it and Garmin Express synced this 12.20 Release Candidate! What's the point of setting Auto Update to off when they push out release candidates that I specifically don't want?
