Known Bugs / developer blog?

I was wondering if there is a blog / list somewhere with known/reproducible bugs of each firmware version?

I would like to know which bugs are being actively worked on and when a fix is expected.

Being new to Garmin, how often are minor Bugfix usually released?

  • In my experience they usually come out with a beta version once a month, this may include fixes and new features
AFAIK there is no blog/list, i would also like this.

But really there shouldnt be any bugs in the official software, first they release a beta which you can choose to download, if there's any bugs they will be fixed in the official release, which comes out like 1 week-ish later

  • This has two aspects:

    1. Garmin have always been quite good with change logs for their software. Updates come on a regular basis while the product is not end-of-life.

    2. However, there has for many years been a negligent, almost arrogant mentality of delivering buggy software on release, and then patching over the course of a lifetime of the product. Basically, updates shouldn't be necessary at all. It's all this Agile / just-in-time approach which makes me quite angry. Garmin has good hardware, at least in concept, but is let down by a very strange attitude that no car manufacturer could ever afford. And that considering how people rely on Garmin in sometimes challenging life-or-death situations.

But whatever we write here, or share with support, it won't make any difference to the underlying attitude at Garmin, unfortunately.

  • Agreed, the only time updates are needed if there is improvements or new features, and with these watches there is so many possibilities that could become real. But Garmin never really adds some of the ideas posted here.

In the Instinct forum, there is a thread about a guy asking for the firmware to be open source/released, i really hope Garmin would do it, this would create a huge group of people making improvements, widgets and new features for free. Like, whats not to like about it?

The only "downside" for Garmin is the surf/esports watches would be no point in having, as this is just software

  • Garmin would never ever open source their software, and I can totally understand why. It is what keeps them ahead of their competitors, even with all the bugs.

For Garmin, they simply ask themselves 'how high is the return rate' (money lost) vs 'how far ahead are we of the competition' (money made). It's the bean counters ruling the world.

Also, many Youtubers want to keep a good relationship with Garmin, so they are quite tolerant towards bugs. And also, most of them are runners, and not long distance hikers, so many bugs don't occur for them. They are more set on comparing HR to a few bpm and GPS accuracy to a few meters.

For many people, however, reliability in the field is far more important.

  • I see. Really hope the guy in the other thread can manange to reverse engineer the firmware. Because this watch is(and can be) much more than a running/sportswatch
