Move IQ detects Elliptical instead of Walking

Hi I have a new Garmin Instinct Solar. My problem is that Move IQ detects Elliptical instead of Walking. What is wrong mit my walking, so that Garmin Move IQ thinks it's an elliptical activity?
The only options I see, is that I can delete dies activity, but there is no possibility to change it to walking. Do I miss something?

  • Hi

So you have your hands in pockets?  Mine says elliptical when i have my hands in pockets

  • Yes, that could be, as it was cold outside, so I was walking with my hands in the pockets.
i will try it again, but next time I will wear gloves. Then I hope to get a walking activity logged. THANKS Pray

  • Why don't you start the Walk activity manually? Not only you'd be sure the activity is going to be properly recorded, you could also have the GPS track logged, not having just the simple MoveIQ event.

  • Well, that's because when I go out of the hause, I don't know if I do only a short stroll or go for longer. This depends on the mood and the weather. When I need a GPS track logged, it is mostly for jogging/trail running or when I go for a hiking trip.
Walking is not one of my favourites.

  • In that case why do you care about the Move IQ activity type? Since it comes with no stats, tracks, or graphs, like the regular Activities, it is completely useless, so you do not need to bother whether the walk was detected as such or not, if you need no stats for it. You can turn off the feature MoveIQ, if the misdetection disturbs you.

  • Just because I am interested in knowing how the software works. And if I can do something to improve it, like take out the hands from the pockets. The solution I have already accepted.

  • And if I can do something to improve it, like take out the hands from the pockets.

And we found another way how wearing a Garmin watch can protect your health, and how it prevents injuries Rofl

  • Same thing happened to me today, instead of running it detected Eliptical! I had no hands in my pockets, I was running as usual. Can this be corrected? Also, it failed to register my run, still trying to learn how to use it properly, but I fail to see how I can ensure the timer comes on and it registers the run, once I´ve connected to the GPS. Any suggestions are welcome.

    The timer does not start.

MoveIQ does not start an activity profile.

It only recognizes movement patterns and displays them on the daily timeline.

If you want to record an activity, you have to start the relevant activity profile manually.

    What is Garmin Move IQ?
