Hi, I am from. Spain, Castellón. And bougth this model one month, seems to work fine but I had used today and a week ago for paddle supp surf sesión and it just take the GPS track but no waves info are shown. Is there any specific conditions you must configure o what happends?

I selected surf activities and took more that 10 waves, but the info are that I have run 0 waves. Wtf?

Please help... Satellite was sincronice (I see the track) and GPS and glonnas mode was activated.

I need support.

  • I already sent an email to Garmin developers and to Garmin Portugal complaining about the situation. Still waiting for a solution. If everybody does the same, maybe they'll do something

    Hi.

I totally agree with you here.

Am so shocked at the inaccuracy of the watch.

for something that is marketed as a surf watch I fell totally misled as all I can read on here is exactly what I am experiencing.

I surfed every day and have so many sessions recorfed which make no sense. I would take 10_15 waves in an average session and the watch tells me i took 60!

The thing just does not work.

    What a lie.

  • send emails to garmin, the more people complain, the easier it is for them to fix it

  • what app did you upload the gpu file to?

  • Bought the surf edition 3 Weeks a go and I have the same problem: the garmin instinct surf edition CANNOT COUNT WAVES. This model is a FRAUD.
I cannot be more dissapointed, and strongly considering to return it and ask my money Back.
    Joaco from Colombia.

  • Yes return it, it doesn't work for counting waves. Good watch otherwise its just the surf functionality doesn't work

  • Hi everybody, I'm neebie into garmin community. I sold out my Rip curl Search GPS 2 to buy my Instinct Solar Surf Edition for multi outdoor activities and specially for water activities. I'm really dissapointted to discover that the surfed wave counter doesn't work fine. My Rip Curl did it perfectly... I practice SUP surf, last session was about more 20 waves surfed but the watch reported me only 3 little waves. I'm doing a email report to Garmin about this heresis. A watch for surfer with a cost of 400€ and this basic application unaccurate. Unthinkable.

I'm in waiting of Garmin reaction to update the firmware of the watch and for the moment I do work our brain for the surfed wave number, as i did before technology.

Have a good surf ! Paul

  • Hi Paul, apparently Garmin just tried to improve on the wave-detection algorithm, this is included in the 16.41 beta. You might want to try that update and then report back (see top 'stickied' post in the Instinct Solar subforum for how to update). Good luck!

  • Hi 3000610, yes i seen it after posting in this topic. I never tried to update to beta software. I will try to do it. Is the installation task secured ? Could it make the watch crash irreversibly ? Thx

  • Hi, I haven't bothered with this specific beta yet, but did install a couple of previous ones and never had an issue with any of those. It's basically just Garmin asking you to do a manual install instead of it being pushed to all owners since there might still be a minor issue. Nothing devastating really. As long as you follow the instructions you should be fine.
