Intensity Minutes

Can anyone get their watch to automatically record intensity minutes after 10 minutes of rigorous exercise. I can only earn intensity minutes by manually recording an activity. My watch has never recorded minutes automatically as it supposed to do. Any ideas?

  • Same issue here too, only get intensity minutes when recording an activity

Could you share a link to the concerned Activity and posting a screenshot of your daily heart rate graph for that day?

  • Not sure what you mean by a link to the concerned activity. The issue is that I expect the watch to record an activity without me telling the watch I am doing an activity. I will however share the heart rate graph for a period of activity

  • You should get credit for intensity minutes without starting an activity after 10 continuous minutes of vigorous exercise, but I believe Move IQ must also trigger an event before it is done. I've found Move IQ to be hit or miss on my 945 and 935.  Does your HR graph display an activity event icon?

  • Instinct does not fully support MoveIQ - on Instinct it will not start any Activity monitoring (and it is not supposed to). However, as  wrote, Intensity Minutes are credited for any physical effort meeting the conditions, regardless whether an activity is started or not. In order to earn intensity minutes credit, you must reach or exceed 10 consecutive minutes where your heart rate is elevated above the threshold that is considered moderate intensity. Performing a more vigorous activity resulting in a high heart rate can double your credit minutes.

I asked for a link to an activity  where you believe you did an effort that should be credited - from the graphs (especially the HR and the HR zones), I could guess whether some IM should be credited or not.

What do you mean by "fully" supported?  Garmin's website has a check mark next to Move IQ feature in the specs for the Instinct Solar.  Move IQ doesn't start an activity on any of Garmin's watches. It shows an "event" with an icon of the sport it "thinks" was performed on the timeline of the HR graph.  I say "thinks" because I've found it has a tendency to select the wrong sport.  Does the Move IQ feature perform differently on the Instinct line?

  • What do you mean by "fully" supported?

Some watches have the option that a MoveIQ detected event can automatically trigger a fully monitored Activity (the same type as if you started it manually). Instinct does not have this option. You have to start the activity manually. MoveIQ events only appear on the calendar and in the daily stats.

Which watches are those?  I currently own a 945 and 935 and they don't. I briefly owned a F6 and I don't recall it doing so. I wasn't aware any would do this, but it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong.  All I can find from Garmin is the following:

    support.garmin.com/.../

MoveIQ events only appear on the calendar and in the daily stats.

The Instinct doesn't show a sport icon in the timeline of the HR graph, or is that what you mean by daily stats?

I'm interested because we have a son who basically hikes and hunts and I'm thinking about getting him one. A Fenix is overkill for what he does, the Forerunner's have too many features he wouldn't use and the Venu and Vivoactive's look to feminine. I'm sure I'm going to get a lot of slack from guys who own those, but that's just the option of this girl who wears a 945 I think looks more masculine. :)

  • Which watches are those?

For example the Vivo series (or at least some of them):

What Is the Auto Activity Start Feature on My vivo Watch?

    you mean by daily stats?

    Yup

  • For example the Vivo series

Yes, I remember my Vivoactive 3 did this, but I considered Move IQ and Auto Activity to be independent features though they can work together if both are activated. I remember it was limited to running or walking where Move IQ has the ability to capture a few more activity types.  I follow what you mean by not fully supported now.
