Solar intensity 0-10% only in some shade with max sunlight?

Just got a Instinct solar and the solar intensity shows 100% in full sunlight, but when I move it into the shade just an inch it drops to 0..10%. Anyone knows if that's normal?

The light is still intense with indirect sunlight so that seems odd. Also fluorescent light or LED flashlight aiming directly at the watch doesn't charge at all. I wonder if this is a defect or by design?

Yes, it is. In a shade much less power reaches the solar panel.

Just found how to change my name. Editing profile shows a textbox at the top right next to the profile picture but wasn't obvious that was a textbox.

Not sure if related to 9.94 beta I installed, but I did see now solar charging rates go as high as 100% under light bulb.

Also seeing bit more % in shade sometimes.

The power reaching the solar panel from such sources is completely negligible in comparison to the Sun, hence do not expect any noticeale recharging.
