Duplicate texts every day...

My wife is in an area with no cell service and she is using our inReach Explorer to text me. We use Google Fi for our cell service. The problem is I keep getting duplicates every day for the previous day to the point that it's getting hard to keep track of the conversation.

  1. Is there anything I can do about it or is it something that I just have to put up with?

Thanks,

Joe

  • First step is to check the Inbox for the account to which the Explorer belongs.

If there are duplicates THERE, then it's all the moving parts in the Iridium network and Garmin servers. Occasional duplication has been reported in forums before. I don't think anybody has ever pinned down the cause. MY personal take would be to blame the mesh nature of the Iridium satellite network. But that's pure speculation. It WOULD seem like a full 24 hours is a long time for something to be rattling around in the mesh. Even if there are duplicates there, it could still be the Garmin servers causing the problem.

If there are no duplicates in the Inbox, the it is either the Garmin servers (dispatching the same message into the cellular gateways more than once, or via more than one gateway) OR your cell provider sending duplicates. Cell provider might be a more likely candidate if you are roaming, or in a fringe reception area (at the time of the original message transmission).

If you really need to sort it out (and it sounds like you do), open a support ticket. This seems to go beyond the occasional duplication that a lot of users have seen.

  • Hello I would recommend making sure the device has been synced Updating inReach Firmware and Syncing Account Changes with inReach Sync. Once that has been done test it again and see if it is still sending duplictes.
