Explore+ loses inreach connection

Hello everybody. About a year ago I have bought my garmin explore+ imei 300434034699190 for using it in my small aircraft. But since that time I suffer from trouble - it accidentaly loses connection with inreach satellite. Halfway it just does not send any tracking to server until I reboot it manually. It is a huge problem for me that it is not able to reconnect by itself. I can't monitor it everytime and check how it works. I tried it in different aircrafts in different positions to avoid any interference within cabin. All my colleagues use the same model and it works well. Is here any possibility to check the logs why it can not retrieve connection automatically? Thank you

  • Open a support ticket. Sounds like a potential hardware problem.

Support will probably ask whether or not the unit continues to TRY to send points. I don't remember how the legacy units indicate this. But there will be some status bar icon which tells you that the iR modem is "on". When things are working normally, you would see this indicator briefly every time a point is sent. For example, every 10 minutes if that is your send interval.

If the unit is having difficulty contacting the iR satellites, the indicator will stay on longer. If will also appear repeatedly as the unit retries the send operation.

If all of that looks normal, it's almost certainly a hardware problem. That is, the firmware is doing all the right things but it's not working. If you don't see the modem indicator, then it might be a firmware issue. Hard reset might help - or not. Support will have suggestions.

  • Thank you for answer. It has icon of unactive data sync with Inreach (attached in message). Once I restored factory settings, and it didn't help. How to do exactly hard reset I don't know. I would be very grateful if you explain how to do that.

  • Had forgotten that the legacy devices have a specific icon for trouble sending. This behavior almost certainly indicates some kind of hardware problem.

Fully factory reset is what I meant. That's the biggest hammer you have for resetting the state of the device.

Since that did not work, open a support ticket.

  • I'm sorry, I've just found it on garmin maintenance page. I will try to do it and complete the topic.

  • This is functionally the same thing as restoring factory settings from the menus. The magic button sequence is intended for use if the device will not boot - so you cannot do it from the menus.

  • Ok, I got it. Probably you are right the only solution is to open a support ticket. Thx
