Inreach to Inreach map sharing

If sending a message from one inreach device to another while in a remote location with no Wi-Fi, will some form of map be attached to the message . I want the recipient to see me on a map (like MapShare for a standard text to someone with cell service).

  • No. The recipient has only the maps already installed on the receiving device. If the receiving device does not have maps (for example, an inReach Mini or Mini 2), no visualization is available.

  • when the recipient receives a message containing location, he can simply save it as waypoint. this will be visible on his devicie then

  • I have a GPSMAP 66s connected to an inReach mini (1). So far I have only used the inReach for emergency preparedness. However, I assumed that if I sent my position to another inReach (with connected GPSMAP), it would then be displayed on the map of the receiving device. Was that assumption too optimistic?

  • I'm not sure I understand the question.

If the receiving iR device HAS maps, the position "message" can be viewed on the iR device map. Also in the mobile app (Earthmate or Explore, depending on the device) if paired with the iR device.

What exactly are you asking with regard to a mapping handheld paired with the iR device? And WHICH iR device - sender or receiver?

  • First: Thanks for the answer.
My question concerns the GPSMAP 66s in combination with the inReach mini. The GPSMAP 66s is not an inReach device itself, but can be paired with such a device. Seen in this way, the receiving device is the inReach (mini) which has no map function. My question is, does the pairing effectively make the GPSMAP 66s the receiving device and show the message/position on the map?

  • have not heard abt such functionality so far

first question is what you mean by receiving

if you mean the IR device receives a message with coordinates in it, then this by itself will have little meaning. But garmin devices can convert such message to waypoint and waypoints can be transfered to other garmin device one by one. I did not try this with mini so far, but does work let says between 62s and 66i.

  • Hello If you are sending an inReach message to another inReach device there will not be a map included. You can share your location with them that will allow them to then use those coordinates and view them on a map if they have access to one. Depending on the device you have sharing the location may be different. Please use our Support Center for steps on how to share your location from your specific device.
