Dog Tracking and the inReach Explorer

I have the iReach explorer which I take out the bush with me for tracking and safety. I also have a new dog that likes to run away, and eventually come back so far.

I want to get a tracking collar for him and I am hoping that I can just buy the collar and link it to my inReach. Rather that buy another device with collar and have to carry it around.

I just want to know where he is so I can locate him, more than track how far he runs, etc

I have tried contacting Garmin for sales advice as I don't have a store to go into but not getting any replies there

I also have the Fenix 7 if that can be linked also

It cannot track dogs as it does not have the separate aerial for the collar radio system

2990137That is correct. Neither of those devices are dog tracking devices. If you wanted inReach and dog tracking features toghether you would want to look at the Alpha 200i.

Pretty sure that you can't do anything with the Explorer. No idea about the f7.

I don't do dog tracking. But looking at Garmin's sales site on the web, it looks like they want to sell you a specialized display device to work with the collars. Collars only seem to be compatible with the specialized display devices. OTOH, the display devices list watches as compatible, as well as weird things like the 7x0i. You might try asking the sales folks just what, if anything, you can do with the collar and a watch - without the Alpha or Astro or whatever. Sometimes specific questions work better...

7888623 Hello, unfortunately the explorer does not link with dog collars. To use them you would need something like the alpha 200i.

I have the inReach mini and Garmin instinct watch and pay a subscription so if I wanted to track my dog I would need another device and another subscription?
