IreachSe new owner activation

Hi all.

I own an InReach Se and it's on suspend mode at the moment. I havent used it for couple of years.

I would like to sell it. Do i have to Re-activate the service so I can delete / clean my data before I sell it.

Will my account still be valid, I'm thinking of purchasing an Garmin 66i and activating on the same account.

Any help will be welcomed.

Thanks

Vlas

  • Instructions for preparing the device for sale can be found here:

Although it does not say so explicitly, it appears that you can cancel without actually resuming the plan. At least, I do not see anything in the steps that would require the plan to be active at the time.

I do not believe that part about not being able to factory reset the device if the plan is suspended. Up to date firmware allows you to use the device without activation. Not sure what f/w is on a device that has not been updated in several years.

If you really want to reuse the account with a different device, you might have to manually remove the device from the account. (I cannot remember if a device with no plan remains on the account, or if you have to add it back when you want to set up a new plan.)

Note that there is probably a plan cancellation timing issue here. Normally, a freedom plan would not actually be cancelled until the next monthly anniversary of the most recent plan resumption. With the plan suspended for so long, I'm not sure where you are going to land.

If you have any difficulty with any of this, I would open a support call. It's very important that you properly prepare the device and account - or the buyer will not be able to activate the device on a new account.

  • Thanks twolpert.

I have tried to cancel service from garmin explore website and the message was "You must contact your inReach provider to cancel service"

I have contacted my provider in my case is Pivotel in Australia, and the service was cancelled on the spot

    Thanks
