Sync failed.

I just deleted a bunch of points on the online map and went to sync it and it just sits there spinning.  After a while it spits out the message:

Unable to cast object of type  "SyncRestClientModels.AuthFailureModel to type "SyncRestClient.SyncErrorModel

  • Just tried to sync on a separate computer.  Seems to log into the Garmin site and stalls.   Then I did a reset to factory settings and tried again.  Same result , same error message on different computers.

  • Oh yes the old Inreach Explorer.

  • You will probably have to open a support ticket. 

    If changing to a different computer did not ALSO involve using a different cable, you should try that before calling support.

    If you did not (re)install the sync program on at least ONE of the two computers, you should uninstall it, re-install it, and try sync again before calling support.

    The sync program produces a log file. It's text, but not really user-friendly. Nevertheless, you might find something useful in there. If you open a ticket, support may well ask for it. On Windows, it is located here. Some of the directories on the path are normally hidden.

    "C:\ProgramData\Garmin\inReachSync\sync-log.txt"

    The log is cumulative, so you need to look at the end for the latest information.

  • I guess my sync timing couldn't have been better.  Not only did the Fastly just happen it was followed immediately by system maintenance at Garmin.  I went out and kicked some rocks around, came back and it was all fixed.  (I think bigger rocks are better)
