Apple phone email/sms receive problems from inR+

My wife's apple phone is not receiving my messages (SMS & email) from my inR+.  Her mail service is gmail.  Note I've run the test messaging function succesfully.  Also I'm able to receive inR+ email on my desktop computer.  Is there a setting on her phone that needs to be set?

  • Make sure you have the correct email address in the iR device. If you are using a contact (as opposed to typing the full email address or phone number manually), resync the device and try again. When you use a contact, the device addresses the message to a short code number, not to the actual email address or phone number. The code number is converted to the real address on the Garmin server. ANY change at all to the contacts stored with your account will put the code numbers out of whack. A sync fixes that.

As a quick test, you can try sending a message by typing the address manually (not using a contact). If that works, it's almost certainly a contact issue.

Another thing you can do to help diagnose the problem is to check your Inbox on your account at explore.garmin.com. First off, this will tell you if the message made it to the server. Secondly, the threading may tell you what the server thinks about the recipient. If this is a contact problem, I do not remember whether or not the message appears in the inbox.

If you were already sending to a manually typed address, you may need to call tech support. There are occasional issues with SMS messages. The usual issue is that the cell phone provider has decided to block messages which contain shortened URLs. iR messages typically contain such URLs to point to the "map page" showing your location. In the past, this has been almost exclusively a problem with AT&T. However, I have never heard of a similar problem with email. Since you have problems with both, I am inclined to think it's a contact problem. If not, then tech support needs to be involved.

  • RE-SYNCING has cleared up the problem.  Thanks for your reply.
