PCT Map

Hey all,

I recently purchased the PCT map from the garmin website, but I'm not able to load it to my device. I own the inreach explorer +. My email is directing me to the garmin express desktop app, but when I try to connect my device, garmin express says the inreach explorer is not compatible.

Am I doing something wrong? Is there someway to get the PCT map on my device?

Thanks.

Daniel

  • Unfortunately, no.

The Explorer+ is a legacy device - designed by DeLorme before Garmin acquired them. It uses maps in a proprietary DeLorme format. Is is incapable of using maps purchased from Garmin (which are in Garmin format). The only maps available for the Explorer+ are those which you can install from the Map tab on your account at explore.garmin.com.

Garmin Express is not compatible with any legacy device. For example, f/w updates are delivered via the desktop sync program, not via Garmin Express.

You may be able to get your money back on the map purchase if you explain the situation to customer support. OTOH, I doubt that the Explorer+ shows up in the list of compatible devices for the map product, so...

If you want this level of mapping, you are going to have to upgrade to a newer iR device, such as the GPSMAP 66i or the Montana 7x0i. These are full-featured Garmin handhelds. There are, of course, pluses and minuses. On the plus side, full members of the Garmin ecosystem, including use of all Garmin maps. Full-featured hand-helds. On the minus side, they weight more and typically have shorter runtimes on a single charge.
