inReach Explorer+ under the tree -- app questions.

Earthmate or Explore app? At first read I don't get the difference bet the two. Do 3rd party apps like Caltopo, Gaia, etc work as well or better with inReach? I know, much to learn. Resources welcomed.

The legacy devices, including the Explorer+, use the legacy Earthmate app. Newer devices, beginning with the 66i, use the Explore app. Sync functionality is similar, but Explore has more features.

Third party apps are more likely to work on iOS devices. On an iPhone, my understanding is that the iR device is visible in location services so that any app can use it. Not so on Android. That said, I’ve never tried it on either platform.
