Partial track sync to inreach.garmin.com

Yesterday I took a group of Scouts on a hike around a local lake.  I had tracking enabled, but not sharing.  The InReach wasn't turned off during the hike.

At the end of the hike, I turned off tracking.  The Map function showed the hike accurately recorded.  I headed home.

Several hours later, I used my phone to Bluetooth connect to the InReach using Earthmate.  The hike showed up as we walked it.  I used the Sync function, started the inreach.garmin.com site, and PART of the hike was there.  It showed us starting, and walking 95% of the way around the lake, and the track stopped at that point.

This is clearly a bug in the sync function, or in how the inreach.garmin.com site works.  Does anyone have a solution?

Just for the record, I hate that I have to use Earthmate to launder tracks, and routes and waypoints, into my InReach.  The darn thing should be able to be connected via the USB port to my computer, where I can copy information directly to it.  The inreach.garmin.com site is not helpful, as it won't show me useful information such as altitude profiles.  I use CalTopo for that.

Thanks!

Cheers, Bill

  • Explore.Garmin.com is a work in progress. Sometimes the tracks are fine, sometimes not. I would suggest panning and/or zooming the web site map, which may help. This is particularly true of segments near the edges of the map as currently displayed.

Note that the SE and Explorer, as well as the plus versions) are legacy devices. Newer iR devices, such as the 66i, do allow for direct file transfer to/from the PC. But there are trade offs in things like weight and battery life.
