Logging points will not sync with inreach.garmin map

I tracked a trip the other day and like always, the tracking points interval was set to 10 min and logging interval was set to 10 sec. Normally , when I am done the trip, I sync my Earthmate app through wifi to inreach.garmin and the logging points sync up, giving me a more detailed view on my online map. Not this time. I've tried everything and this particular track log will not sync with inreach.garmin. The track is now inaccurate for distance and route taken,

Any thoughts?
  • You stopped tracking before the sync, right? The reason I ask is that until you stop tracking, some number of logged points are always missing from the most recent portion of the track. If your track was short and you did not stop tracking before sync, I suppose it's possible that the entire set of logged points would be missing. Not sure why this is. Suspect that the inReach sends them to the app in blocks - and the partial block at the end is not sent until you stop tracking or fill it.

If you stopped tracking first (and it sounds like you did), then I'm at a loss.
  • Yep. Stopped tracking long before I tried to sync. This is the first time this has happened. Every other track I've recorded has shown my log points on the inReach map once I sync the track. This is annoying if it's some sort of permanent change in the protocol.
  • It's not a permanent change. I tested it with a short track on my way to work this morning. Worked as expected. Have you tried it with any other track since?
  • I'm stuck with the same problem. I'm logging points every 2 minutes and uplinking points every 10 minutes. I see the rough (10 minute) track on the inReach map page but every after doing a sync with the "inReach Sync" windows tool (over USB to my computer) and doing a Sync through Earthmate, none of those 2 minute points are showing on the map. Worked once a month ago shortly after I got the Mini and got this all setup, but I can't make it sync these points at all anymore.
  • Did you power the inReach off between the time you ended tracking and the time you synced it to the web account?
  • Did you power the inReach off between the time you ended tracking and the time you synced it to the web account?

Yep, sure did power it off. In this particular case I didn't have to, but if that's the reason why then I suppose this feature is not going to be of much use on a multi-day hiking trip (on which I would still bring my Montana anyway).
  • Powering down the inReach should not affect the retention of logged points. They should be retained until the logged point storage fills, or until you clear track storage manually. If/when it fills, it should wrap (I think).

Powering down does affect the disposition of any "sent points" that have not actually been transmitted yet. Those will be discarded if you ignore the warning and power down anyway.

I think we are still suffering from the vagaries of the web site with regard to displaying tracks. I am still sometimes seeing duplicate lines (sent points and logged points) for the same track. I am also seeing counter-intuitive situations with regard to the display of logged points. For example, I ran three track over the past two days (to be perfectly clear, on a Mini) - one on the way to work on July 23, on the way home, and one on the way to work on July 24. Had not sync-d any of them but did power the Mini down last night. This morning, after ending the track on the way to work, I sync-d via the Earthmate app. The logged points show up for the July 23 am track (proving the point that they were not lost when I powered down yesterday evening). But the logged points do not yet show up for the July 23 pm track or for this morning's track. Go figure.

It's also possible that there is something wrong with the sync process itself. But I don't think it's the inReach device discarding the points.
