New Zealand DOC Huts

Does anyone know if it is possible to display the New Zealand DOC Huts on the inReach Map. I see the the inReach uses OpenStreetMaps, and on their website it is possible to see the DOC Huts, but on the Garmin Map, with the OpenStreetMap layer enabled, the DOC Huts are not visible,

This makes it very difficult to add routes to the Explore+ for specific tramps.
  • Probably due to one of two things. First off, the Garmin OSM maps are cached copies. If the information is relatively new, it might not be present in the copies Garmin is using. Secondly, it may be a matter of zoom level. Some features are only visible at particular zoom levels. And each map type has a certain range of zoom levels for which it is available.

First thing to try is to center on an area in which you know the feature exists. Then zoom in and out to see if the feature shows up at any zoom level. If not, it's either not there at all or visible only at zoom levels which the map type does not support.

It's also possible that Garmin removes some feature types to avoid possible clutter. None of us has any way of knowing about that.
  • One workaround that I have done in similar situations, if the coordinates can be grabbed from a source such as OpenStreetMaps:
    1. Open the Map page of the inReach.garmin.com site,
    2. Click on the New Waypoint icon to create a new waypoint and enter the DOC Hut coordinates,
    3. Repeat as desired for more Huts,
    4. Click on the New Route icon to create a connecting route,
    5. Click on the waypoints in the sequence to define desired route,
    6. Sync new route to inReach.
