So I am running the latest firmware and I noticed that the unit does not turn on when external power is activated (cigarette lighter USB port 2.4A). When I unplug the unit and then plug it into the same USB port, it will turn on. Any ideas or suggestions to fix this?
Is the lighter socket always live, or does it shut off when you turn off the ignition? The way you describe the behavior when you plug the unit into a live USB port, it sounds like it's "edge triggered" - that is, it turns on when it senses the application of power. So if the port is always live AND you shut the unit down manually when you got out of the car, there is no power-up "edge" when you turn on the ignition.
I'm reaching here, but I can't think of any other explanation.
That's correct Tom the user has taken a specific action to power the device Off and the device will remain powered off until it senses power. In this case, if the port is constantly supplying power the device would need to be reconnected to trigger a power on.
Thanks for the responses - the power socket turns on with the ignition, so my expectation is that the unit would turn on when I turn on the ignition (as other items do that are plugged into the same socket (scanner for instance).
So I got this issue figured out. When turning the ignition key quickly, like when starting the car, the power will go from on, to off very quickly, providing not enough time for the unit to come on. When you turn the ignition key to the first step (providing battery power only), the unit will come on, and then when you start, the power is briefly interrupted (unit will ask if you want to keep it on or not), but once the car is running, the unit will stay on.
