So, I ran into a guy while on some trails who showed me an inreach mini and all the trails he had logged on his phone using earthmate. It made my phone gps appear obsolete so I decided to purchase an inreach mini when I got the chance.
Fast forward a few months an I purchased an inreach mini to replace my phone gps. I'm not sure what the issue is but I can't seem to track myself unless I'm willing to pay .10 per tracking point. All I want to do is log my route. I don't need to see/log/send my location points so the "tracking point" system is essentially useless to me.
My phone gps was able to track me without issues by simply "recording" my routes, free of charge.
I took the inreach on the trail yesterday and I wasn't impressed. Where my phone never waited for a signal, the inreach is always searching for a signal. Yes, I tested it in the system before I left base camp. I found the UI easy enough to navigate but there was no option to log my route which is all I was trying to do.
At the end of the day I was left with a bunch of way points and zero tracked routes. Super frustrating.
TL'DR. Do I really have to pay to log my routes? I'm on the verge of returning this thing.
