Garmin charging - log interval vs send interval vs tracking point vs breadcrumb vs Send/Track Point

Theres a few posts on here about charging, Im sure most people have worked it out (some probably after a massive bill shock)

Garmin invoice notes and FAQ pages are all equally confusing - I rang Garmin support and even they couldn't explain it adequately.- I kid you not, he literally said '"yes its confusing isn't it ?!"

So I thought I'd collate what I believe to be correct in a simpler format:

Using the Earthmate app settings, or directly in the device:

Log Interval = not charged - these may only show up in your map when you sync back via Earthmate or USB. Log Interval is not the same as Tracking Point. (In normal world GPS this is called a breadcrumb, but thats not what Garmin calls it. go figure..)

Send Interval = charged for each single contact with Iridium service. This may also include automated system contacts such as when you stop moving. Send Interval is what Garmin interchangeably call in various places a 'Tracking Point' or 'breadcrumb' or 'Send/track Point' or 'Tracking Interval'

support.garmin.com/.../

e.g.

A Log interval of 5 minutes with a Send Interval of 30 minutes will generate UP TO 3 Chargeable notifications over 1 hour of navigation. (inclusive of a 'Stop Moving' notification)

The 5 minute 'breadcrumbs' or 'Log Interval' stored in your device will only update to your map when synced and will never result in a charge.

Which only leaves one question - Does a 'Stop Moving' notification enter into Log Interval or is always sent over the Iridium network ?

There appears to be no clear FAQ on Garmin to answer this last question - the device needs to contact the Iridium service to determine you have stopped moving and these are notifications that MAY/ MAY NOT be sent to your shared garmin map I will just cautiously presume they are a chargeable item. Does anyone know how this works?

If anyone wants to clarify errors in the above statements I would be most pleased to hear them and I will update the text above.

cheers

and thank you for your patience.
