syncing to update

trying to update firmware on my in reach mini and the computer can't find the device. I've tried a couple of USB cables and tried different USB ports on computer and still computer can't find the device. the in reach mini is taking power and charging from computer so that part work, just computer can't find the device and no USB icon show on the mini to show that it is connected to computer. I've tried using Garmin Basecamp and Garmin Express and neither program can find the mini connected to computer. is there something else i can try or is there a hardware issue inside or plug in socket that is not letting mini to connect with computer so i can update firmware

  • Sounds like you have charge-only USB cables. Try the one that came with the Mni - AFAIK, all Garmin cables provide for data transfer. The Garmin cable will SAY Garmin on the A-connector (the large end).

You should see the USB icon on the device rather quickly after you plug it in with the proper cable. It doesn't matter if there is a program (such as the desktop sync application, or Garmin Express) running at the time. Although it will take a little longer, the device should also show up in Windows explorer as a "disk drive".

You MIGHT see messages from Windows saying that it is preparing the device for use, or something like that. It is loading drivers. If this happens, let the process finish.

    • Ya, tried bunch of cables. Tested cables on other devices and cables work fine, think there’s problem in the mini , hardware or firmware problem that is not letting it be recognized by computer.
  • If you're sure that at least one of the cables was a data transfer table, open a support ticket.
