Inreach mini first time battery charge

Hi,

just bought a garmin inreach mini (Brand new). For the first time battery charge, in order to ensure best battery performance later, do I have to wait battery level down to 20% before doing first time charge to help battery life (Even for every charge)

asking because that is the recommendation I got for my garmin fenix 5x watch so I was wondering if the same would apply to the type of battery in the InReach

thanks

Sylvain

  • Not aware of any such requirement for the Mini. Also not aware of such guidance for the f5x. I have an f5x that is several years old. I recharge it when I think about it. Once in a while, I forget and it dies. Usually it gets recharge somewhere between 25% and 30%. No harm done as far as I can see.

The basic rule of thumb with Lithium Ion batteries is to avoid full discharges. Repeated partial discharge/charge cycles are better. If the battery "meter" on the device appears to be inaccurate, it may be necessary to discharge the unit fully (run it until it shuts down) to recalibrate the meter. I am assuming that the device shuts down before discharging the battery to the point where it cannot be recharged in the device.

Lithium Ion batteries are not like the old NiCad chemistry, which had a "memory" and required more careful conditioning.

This article is representative of what I have seen on the subject:
