Garmin inReach Mini activation stuck (HW 4.1, SW 3.70)

Hello,

I can't activcate my inReach Mini while I'm outdoors. It has latest available firmware installed, but it stucked on activation:

Fix done, Activation request sent and it is stuck on "waiting for confirmwation", then it writes that activation takes too much time and I should activate online.

Also, explore.garmin.com shows error with my billing:

Error Device XXXXXXX was not found active in billing system.

Any thoughts?

Thank you

  • Exact message (after I left it outside in the open air for an hour):

    "Waiting for Confirmation

Activation is taking a long time. Confirm activation online."

Also, I tried to re-apply plan change and get next error:

"The device object contains invalid values. Activation is pending for this device."

  • You are probably doing to have to call tech support to resolve this.

From the sounds of things there is an issue with the billing on the server side. You cannot do the outdoor portion of activation until you have successfully registered the device on the web, selected a plan on the web, and paid for the selected plan. This is what the error messages refer to.

At a guess, maybe a problem with the credit card charge? But it's just a guess. Call tech support.

  • Tryed to activate today, from scratch. Received this message on last activation step:

We apologise for the delay in activating your inReach. Activation is a multi-step process where each step could include a brief delay while waiting for the activation servers to respond. The activation process only occurs once. Any delays that you might experience while waiting for the activation servers are completely unrelated to the performance of your inReach after it is activated.

We recognise that waiting for activation can be frustrating. We can assure you that delays during the activation process do not affect the inReach device performance or the time to send and receive messages after you have full access to the satellite network.

  • Try again. This message MIGHT be related to a recognized outage of iR activation services. The outage was on January 4 and lasted for about 5 hours.

OTOH, this could just be a new "motherhood and apple pie" warning added to the web site.

If your activation continues to fail, open a support ticket.
