Another Mini not receiving messages

Hi, I purchased the mini brand new in Sep/21, the device was set up in accordance with the Garmin instructions, I have a annual recreation plan, Im in the UK & the device is paired to an IOS eathmate app on UK EE mobile network.

RIGHT....... I can send a Garmin in reach test message & I get a reply, I can send a text message to a contact in my phone & they receive it.....BUT if they reply to the message the reply does not arrive on the eathmate app, mini device OR the explore online site. I have tried to send a message from the mapshare page, that also fails to arrive to the earthmate app or device.

So just to clarify the device has NEVER received a text message from new. I'm constantly paying money for a device/service I can use or trust.

Thanks.

  • The fact that you can receive replies to test messages pretty much rules out a problem with the device itself.

Check the Inbox on your account at explore.garmin.com. This will tell you if the message made it as far as the Garmin servers. (I suspect it did, especially the ones from MapShare). But it's worth checking.

The only reason I can think of for messages not making it to the device from MapShare is if you DISABLED the ability to send from MapShare. Check your MapShare settings to be sure you have allowed visitors to send you messages. You control this on the Social tab, using the MapShare Settings button.

With regard to replies coming from phones to which you sent SMS messages: The ability to reply that way requires support from the SMS gateway which serves the phone. Not ALL gateways support replies. Even if the gateway DOES support the feature, it's possible that there is a transient problem of some sort. The only way to check this out is to open a support call so that Garmin can follow up with the gateway.

  • I spoke with Garmin Support on the phone, all they could suggest is I read the support pages that they email me,  which is no help

  • They are the only ones who can help with SMS issues. You can try asking them to escalate the issue. Sometimes that works and sometimes it does not.

  • I have been trying to resolve the issue for 2 & a bit months now, I think the best option to cut my losses & sell on

    thanks.

  • I had the same problems. I reported an error to Garmin, and my whole device was replaced. Of course, the fault wasn't in the devices.

The problem was with the mobile operator. Garmin uses a provider that has no roaming contracts all over the world. I found this because my provider allows options to verify whether an SMS message has been delivered. I received a reply that SMS cannot be delivered. I called my provider, who solved the problem by redirecting the SMS to the HUB. I don't know exactly what that means. I did the same for another provider my wife uses.
