Hide a previous track on mapshare and make it private to just me?

Wondering if anyone has figured out a way to make a previous track private so that only I can view it when logged in.

I tried creating a collection that's not visible on mapshare and moving the tracks within that collection. That didn't seem to do anything, they still show up if I'm someone just visiting my mapshare link.

I need to keep my Library enabled, so that future things show up there. Is the only solution to delete the tracks from my Library (and this the "Hide Tracks" collection, making it kind of pointless?)

Thanks!

  • Try this, first look at your share.garmin.com/YOURPAGE and see that tracks are visible you don't want. Then go to explore: https://explore.garmin.com/Social  . Click the button "Filter MapShare Data" and set the date to tomorrow, scroll down a bit and click the "Save Changes" button. Go back to the tab for you rmapshare page, refresh, and see if they disappear.

  • So, everything actually lives in the Library. When you add something to a collection, you’re adding a sort of pointer into the library. Point here is that if you want to use collections to manage visibility, you will want to hide the library. Hide it, do not delete things from it. Deleting from a collection just removes the pointer from the collection. It does not delete the thing pointed to. OTOH, deleting from the library really deletes it from the library and all collections.

Your life will probably be simpler if you do not explicitly send to MapShare. But that really defeats the purpose of MapShare.

  • Thanks for the tips! My hope was to keep some old ones on there, and just hide a few inbetween now and those older ones. Thinking about it some more, I think mapshare just really isn't meant to be an archive and I'll have to use something else!

Appreciate your responses, it confirmed I wasn't just doing something wrong!
