Inreach mini shutting off when in use

I use my inreach mini on bicycle rides. I have it start tracking and carry it in a back pocket of my jersey. When I check at the end of my ride I find that it has shut off. I turn it back on with the power button and it usually shows that it had tracked for about 30 minutes. My wife checking my progress on earth mate sees my track ending about about 30 minutes into the ride. Garmin support has no solution. I’m currently on the second replacement of my original mini. Problem still exists.

  • If you have extended tracking enabled, try disabling it. The device does not actually shut off if extended tracking is the "problem". However, it will go into a sleep mode which externally looks like it is off.

  • You don't have it connected to an external power source (such as a backup battery pack), do you? Seems unlikely in your cycling jersey, but I have to ask. Unit can be configured to shut down when external power is removed.

Also, what is the state of charge when you turn it back on? Looking for something like a bad battery here.

Make sure that the f/w is up to date. F/W updates are delivered via Garmin Express.

You can try a full reset as explained here: https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=QIpm6OKYTv41VE8vHn92o6

This will wipe out all user data on the device. It will also require you to repeat the outdoor portion of device activation and sync the device to get contacts, etc.

If none of that works, I'm out of ideas. Unless somebody else chimes in, support is going to be your only channel. I realize you've been there and done that, but I can't think of anything else.

  • No, it’s not plugged into anything. It’s got plenty of battery charge. I’ve done the reset and sometimes that fixes it for one or two trips. I just talked to Garmin support again. They’re puzzled and are sending me a third replacement. They were wondering if somehow I was accidentally turning it off, but it’s a three step process to turn it off.

So either some farmer is doing something bizarre in his barn that messes it up as I go by, or it’s the atomic powered microchip the aliens implanted when I was abducted last year.

  • I believe I found the problem.  About three weeks ago Garmin sent me my third replacement.  Previously when out for a bike ride I had my Garmin Edge 1000 on, which connected by blue tooth to my iphone.  It is also connected to the Garmin radar and light on my rear fender.  Additionally it was also connected to the Garmin Connect app on my iphone.  When I was using the Inreach Mini it was connected to the Earthmate app on my iphone.  I think some how all or one of these signals was disrupting the Mini and causing it to shut off.  I deleted the Connect and Earthmate apps from my iphone and the Mini has been working perfectly so far.
