Firmware 3.60?

Just pulled up gamin express to update my watch and a blue bubble notice popped up on my inreach mini tab.  FW 3.60  Can't find anything on it?  Any one else see this? Throwing caution to the wind I let it update and it installed and states 3.60? Can't find release notes anywhere?

  • No, just start Garmin Express and it will notify you about the update. However, Garmin sometimes provides updates sequently, meaning that e.g., only 20% of the user base will receive the update within week 1, followed by another 20% in week 2 and so on (numbers are just examples). I guess that is mainly for security reasons, so that not everyone will be effected by a major bug in the new firmware (and of course to reduce strain on the servers). So, if Garmin Express does not show any update for you, just wait a little bit longer. :-)

P.S.: I guess you already checked that you do not have 3.6 already installed) ;-)

  • My Garmin Express says it's up to date with 3.6. When I look at the InReach Mini itself, it says it has firmware 2.7 installed? Guess I believe what the Mini is reporting more than what Express is telling me, but anyone know how to 'reset' Express? I did a factory reset on my Mini and then re-synced it with my account. Still reports 2.7 on the device itself.

  • Ah, answer was simple of course. I removed my device from Express and then added it back in. It prompted me to update to 3.6 again and it appears to have worked properly this time, as the device itself now reports it has 3.6 on it.

  • The software is being released in incremental phases and will be available for all users shortly

  • Hahaha yes! I checked that twice before posting here, and I'm still at 2.80 version. I hope to get 3.6 soon.

  • Exactly the same happened to me, GE displays 3.60 and like device is up to date, but inReach Mini shows 2.80. Garmin support suggested to perform Factory Reset, and tried to convince me all user settings will be untouched, but on the device I got warning like all user data will be deleted. So, decided to check forum first. And... yes! Simple delete inReach Mini from the GE, add it back, and proper update was finally performed. Now I have 3.60 in the device.

  • from the Change Log for 3.60

Added support for updating the address of a message received from an unknown address

what is it? how to use it?

  • This is automatic. Has something do with changes to the way contact "codes" are assigned and used. You sometimes now see a message from "unknown". Eventually, the unit will send a query via the Iridium network (you are not charged for that) to resolve "unknown" into an address (email or phone number), which the unit then displays.

  • How it was possible to get a message from UKNOWN? To send message there is three option: 1/ reply to SMS originated by inReach, 2/ use a link attached to email originated by inReach, 3/ use share.garmin.com/[USERNAME] web form if allowed. As far as I can see all variations must have sender identifier? Isn't it?

  • I don't know any details. All I know is that short codes are now automatically assigned to addresses in sent and received messages. And automatically used in place of the address when possible. That part is transparent. However, the mechanics somehow result in situations where the device receives a short code for which it does not (yet) know the meaning (the associated address). This change log item refers to the mechanism for determining and using the actual address associated with the previously unknown short code.
