  • Apologies for not replying in Russian. The ability to reply to an inReach message via SMS has a limited lifetime - on the order of several weeks after the inReach message was received on the phone. Before leaving on a trip, you should “prime the pump” by sending a fresh message to each phone.

    You can check to see if the reply was accepted by the Garmin servers by checking the inbox for your account at explore.garmin.com.

  • I've done a lot of experiments to send SMS to different numbers. All of them were received by subscribers, but the answers were not received on InReach. I even sent myself to my cell phone. But I couldn't get an SMS back. Correspondence via email works both ways fine. The message test works. If you write a message on the MapShare page, InReach mini receives a message.

  • Frequently, this is an issue with the cell provider. Some of them discard messages containing shortened links as spam. Garmin uses a shortened link to the web page which shows location. Such replies will not appear in the inbox. To see if this is the problem, turn off “include location” for your account at explore.garmin.com.

    AT&T is a frequent offender.

    You can also check general SMS status from the dashboard - accessible from the upper right corner of your account page.

  • I tried it with different settings. It never worked for InReach mini to receive sms in response. In October, everything worked with the current settings.

  • This is a possibility. Garmin uses third-party gateways to send SMS messages. In order for replies to work, the gateway must report the number on which it “dials out” back to the Garmin servers. Not all gateways can do this. If the gateway in the Recipient’s area cannot, then replies will never work.

  • Previously, it worked, the room gateways didn't change. It just stopped working. I cleared the entire correspondence history and started a new one. Everything doesn't work exactly. How can I be sure that sos will work if basic sms technology doesn't work? It's a pity that I signed a one-year contract right away.

  • SOS is a completely different thing. It involves only inReach, Garmin servers, and the GEOS emergency response center. No third-party gateways or cell networks.

    if SMS replies previously worked, you should contact Garmin tech support. Garmin will work with the gateway to get it fixed.
