More detailed tracks?

Hi I have my unit set to the 10min intervals, but I am using this for an aviation application and so my tracks are not very detailed (moving at 100+ mph). I had tried setting log interval to 2 minutes, but that didn't seem to change the track that is repoted to the web map.

How can I make the device send/save a more detailed path? I'd like to see more tracking points... though I know I'd be paying a lot more for it...

  • Depending on your plan, you can do "sent" track points at intervals down to 2 minutes. These are more expensive plans. "Sent" track points are the only way to get the track to the web (your explore.garmin.com account or your MapShare page) in more or less real time.

If you don't need real time updates to the web, you can use shorter logging intervals. Unlike the "sent" points, logged points are never sent via the Iridium satellite network - so there is no charge. They are stored only on the device. They only appear on the web after you sync the device. You can sync either OTA via the free Earthmate app or via a wired USB connection with your PC. The latter uses the desktop inReach Sync  program.

Note that logging points at intervals of 30 seconds or less requires the Mini to power the GPS radio continuously. This is hard on battery life. You will see a warning on the device when you set a logging interval of 30 seconds or less.
