I´ve checked that my Inreach mini has not waypoints, tracks points or routes on int .

Even the dot that says "Tincho" was not my current position

I synced it via USB and each time that I log in Explorer site , they are again and they can not be deleted

Anybody has a clue what are they?

Help will be thanked.

Thanks Martin

  • What happens when you click on one of the dots? Typically, this will show a "bubble" with additional information.

Since you're using a Mini, I would GUESS that these represent (track) points sent while you have a poor fix. Same thing with the current position pointer being "out of position". But it's just a guess.

  • Dear Twolpert:

Thanks again for your answer , in fact if I click on one of them ,

it shows a square window that shows lat and long and has a trash icon (wich does not works at all)

Also has a message icon that i do not want to use

I really don´t think that are tracks points , because my Inreach (and my Earthmate app) has never been setted up to track .

I will never use Inreach to track (because I have a 64Sx unit ) the Inreach is only for Messaging.

So I am affraid that track log never was enebled.

Any other comment will be thanked.

    Tks Martin

  • Could also be old "current position" information. As discussed in another thread, there are some circumstances (only vaguely understood) when the unit reports position and the web site displays it.

As an aside - you are correct that inReach "sent track points" are not a good way to log your own track for later use. Your handheld GPS is better for that. The sent inReach points are too far apart to faithfully follow your path. However, the "sent track" does have an important potential safety benefit. If you become disabled to the point of not being able to trigger an SOS, your last sent track point provides a starting point for SAR (once somebody at home notices that you are overdue and reports the problem).

Along the same line, your contacts at home can watch your progress via the "sent track points" on MapShare. This lets them know that you are moving along. And if you stop moving unexpectedly, it gives them a heads up that something might be wrong.

None of this is a substitute for messaging or for the use of SOS when it's warranted. Just another potential layer of safety.

  • Dear Twolpert :

You are right with that the log will be helpfull to see where you have been in case of SOS .

Maybe I will consider to activate it in the future (on a trekking).

Returning to my original question , do you think that a factory reset to the Mini will dissapear the dots ? or will be a time waist ?

    thanks for your answer Martin

  • I would guess not. History stored on the web site is independent of what's on the device.

If the trash can icon (in the "bubble" that appears when you click the point on the map) does not work, I don't know of any way to get rid of these.

  • Yes in fact , when I click on trash icon it says "error" . I will try another browser , just to check it , but I have no trust that it will work .

Despite that it is not a big problem , because I checked my Mini memory and it has not any of them inside , so it is not going to be filled by this dots .

Thank you again for you time and help Martin

  • I can confirm that was not a browser faillure. Both Mozilla and Edge shows the same error.Tks again

  • I am almost sure these blue dots are positions where you started or ended Navigation. I was curious for updated location on the map even my unit is not set for Tracking and I am not sending any messages here https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/inreach/f/inreach-mini/231891/mapshare-magically-updates-my-location

I did a small additional experiment today, during my commute to the office I switched Navigation to some Waypoint ON and OFF for a few times, and share.garmin.com/[user_name] displays few fresh (dated for today) blue dots.

Please try the same, ie Tracking is OFF, no sending manual Location updates, no sending any Messages or Presets, just Navigate to some Waypoint then in few minutes stop Navigation and repeat for a few times. Do you see fresh blue dots close to real location where you started / stopped Navigation?

I am still curious is it Navigation only or what else can causes these magical location updates on the map?

  • Older iR units do send navigation events via the Iridium network. These do show up on the maps on the web site, although I have long since forgotten what they look like. I believe that the feature has been removed from newer units such as the 66i.

  • If all of us are correct with assumptions like older iR units (MINI, SE+, Explorer+ what else?) send navigation events with location via Iridium, it can be used as location update for share.garmin.com map for free and without disturbing recipients by sending extra Presets. Is it correct?
