Send location to iR via MapShare

Via web https://share.garmin.com/[USER_NAME] it is possible to send Location by entering coordinates or by selecting point on the map. Of course if user allowed to send messages via MapShare. It is handy if someone wants to send you location which can be used as destination waypoint directly on iR MINI.

It is working ok via desktop web browser. Unfortunately I can't see this option when accessing https://share.garmin.com/[USER_NAME] by mobile web browser (Safari, iPhone).

I understand location can be sent as coordinates text, but it is not so useful as recipient need to manually reenter these coordinates to create waypoint, what is very very difficult and time consuming on the iR.

Is there any way to send Location via mobile web browser?

  • Apparently not. If you tap the circled-i icon in the lower right corner, you can switch to something which claims to be the desktop version. Even in landscape orientation, the "Send location" icon is not visible in the sidebar. Don't know why.

Beware: Once you ask for the desktop version, there is a cookie which keeps you in that mode. I have not found an easy way to return to the mobile version.

  • Thank you for your observations.

I had contacted Garmin support, to explain what is the issue takes ages and in short - there is no way to send location to the iR via accessing MapShare by mobile web browsers. Also, I switched to desktop version on mobile, there is no option to send location via desktop version opened by mobile web browser, and again it was very difficult to explain to Garmin support it should be a normal way to switch back to the mobile version. After an hour of very tough conversation it seems Garmin support sure it is absolutely ok to delete cookies to switch back. weird!

  • Me too , on Android did not work
