My friend sent me his location from his inreach to my inreach, I can see the loaction on my inreach and can view the message via the earthmate app. What I cant do is view his location on the earthmate app. The view tab is not highlighted in black and cannot be selected. Should I simply be able to view his location? Hope Ive explained it well enough, if further info is required please dont hesitate to ask.
What you are describing sounds like the special-purpose web page that opens when you click the link in an SMS message (in the messages app on your phone) or the link in an email you received (also presumably on your phone). I don't know that I've ever seen one for which the View Map tab is disabled. Did you open the link from the messages app on your phone, from the email app on your phone, or from someplace else? If someplace else, please describe.
IIRC, it's possible to set up an inReach account so that SMS messages do not include the location. If that's the way his is set up, and if you are viewing the web page from the SMS message, then I would expect the View Map tab to be disabled. Disclaimer: Have not tried this at all.
If you are actually viewing the message in the Earthmate app (by tapping the Messages icon at the bottom of the screen), you can view a message which includes location as follows. Tap the conversation on the Messages page. From the resulting list of messages, tap any message for which a "pin" icon appears to the left of the message text. The "pin" indicates that a location is included. Tapping the message displays the message details page, which includes the map at the top.
Unfortunately, you cannot zoom the map on the details page. Tapping it opens the full map page, which shows the correct area but no longer shows the actual message location. Best way that I know of to get a zoom-able map is to navigate to the message location. To do so, tap the navigate icon on the detail page (circled arrow). This opens the full map page, showing a straight line between your current location and the message location. You can pan and zoom this one at will. When you're done (assuming you don't really want to navigate), tap the small stop sign icon at the top right, then tap the Messages icon at the bottom to return to the message detail screen. Disclaimer: Never tried this with an iR to iR message, but I would expect it to work.
