I noticed that when I turned on the device I saw a small icon at the top of the screen where other icons are located that looks like a filled in balloon (or circle) with two arms (or tentacles) pointing to the upper left side. Does anyone know what this icon signifies?

That icon was just added in 2.30 or 2.50 to show ANT+ was enabled.
Here is a photo of the icon. It is always on and yes I do have the InReach Mini connected to my Fenix 5X through Ant+ so that is probably it.ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1435009.jpg
