Feature suggestion: watch assist GPS mode

I’d love the ability to use the inreach mini and my Fenix watch in combination for longer events. For example, I could choose to use the GPS tracking on the mini, and only display the stats (pace, time, distance, etc.) and controls (activity start, stop, pause etc.) on the Fenix watch. This would enable much longer tracking at higher quality levels for ultra and multi day events. I might even want to turn off the satellite upload functionality to extent battery life. I think this would open up a new market demographic for the inreach products, and be a significant competitive advantage.

Also, is this the right place to submit feature suggestions such as this?

Thanks!
Dave
  • If I understand you correctly, you'd like to use the Mini GPS instead of the watch GPS for GPS-oriented activities on the watch. The problem with this approach is that the Mini is typically sending/logging track points much less frequently than the watch. In order to conserve the Mini battery, you should not log at intervals of 30 seconds or less. At 30 seconds and lower, the GPS receiver on the Mini runs continuously - which causes a serious battery drain. If you choose to log only at longer intervals (say 1 or 2 minutes), the distance and related values calculated by the watch would become more and more incorrect as the logging interval goes up. But maybe I'm misunderstanding the intent?
