Preset messages - location and time?

Are the lat/long coords and the time stamp that accompany a preset message correct for the moment the 'send' OK button is pressed or when the message is sent?

I have ticked the settings box that appends the lat/long coords to all of the preset messages.

EDIT: Just did some tests. It looks like the location and time stamp are at the time the 'send' OK button is pressed NOT when the message is sent. However to see the time stamp you do need to click the popup on the website...the email or text timestamp may be some time after the message was originally sent.
  • I've never tested this on the mini. But the business about time the message originated vs. time the message was sent is pervasive throughout the inReach line. I don't remember the details, but on iR devices with more capable UI (for example, the Explorer+), you will see both times for the same message - on different screens on the device. I suspect this is supposed to be a feature. However, I can never remember which screen shows which time, so I just find it confusing.

The coordinates, however, are always for the point at which the message originated.
  • Thanks for your input Tom. That seems to confirm my own quick test. I sent one of each of my three preset messages. The locations certainly matched up with where I pressed the button and I think the times did too but I didn't monitor times that closely...
