Following Route

I exported a track and then imported it as a route on the inReach website. I can see the route on my inReach Mini. I tried to navigate the route but it just seems to be pointing me to the end point. It alerted me when I reached the end point, but in no way did it guide me on the actual route. I was expecting to be pointed to the start and then to each point on the route. I am guessing that the navigate route is really only useful for the people watching on the mapshare web page and for the user of the device. Am I missing something?
  • I created a route (in Basecamp), first going 700 meters N of my position, then back 1400 S of my position. Uploaded route at in reach.garmin.com and synced.

When starting navigation, I am directed to the first waypoint (arrow pointing N) .. but .. distance shown below the arrow is to the end-point (2.1 km). So, not very useful compared to other GPS units.
  • Have not done this much with the mini because it's awkward to navigate with no visuals. However, what you are seeing might be a function of the nature of the route you set up. You might try a route which is not along the same line to see if you get different results. For example, instead of 700 m north, then 1400 m south, try 700 m north, then 1400 m west (or east). Then see if you get distance to next turn rather than total distance. (I don't actually remember which you should see.)

Depending on where you start, there are also odd possibilities in that inReach devices don't necessarily direct you to the start of a route if you are nearer an intermediate point on the route. This makes sense since your goal is generally to get to the end point, not to traverse the entire route. However, this scenario would not account for what you are seeing.
