Preset messages/pairing with Garmin watch

Hello, I have 2 questions relating to the Inreach Mini. First, is there a way to send a preset message through Earthmate using my iPhone? Or can preset messages only be sent via the mini? I thought I read somewhere that they also could be done via a Garmin watch. Which is my second question. How do you pair the Inreach Mini to a Garmin Fenix 5X? Thanks for the help!
  • It does not appear that you can send preset messages through the iOS Earthmate app. At least, it it's in there, I can't find it. You can send Quick Text or manually composed messages, but not Presets. OTOH, this is very easy to do from the device itself.

According to both the introductory blog post and the support pages, you can pair the inReach Mini with a Fenix watch using ANT+. Compatibility info here indicates 5, 5S and 5X are compatible. OTOH, the Fenix support page seems to indicate that the feature has not yet been released. But it is June...
  • Firmware version 9.2 for the Fenix 5 is out now. The inreach widget is included. I have paired my watch with the inreach mini and it works.
  • Thank you. I saw that the release was out and that it mentioned inReach. Trying it out now...

  • I can confirm that you can send pre-set messages from a Fenix 5x. You can also ‘type’ a message if you have the patience - using the up/down/select method also used when naming waypoints.
There is also a ‘initiate SOS’ option on the watch.
  • Is anyone using the inReach Mini paired to your Fenix 5, and if so, is the connection stable? Mine disconnect constantly, even when they’re only a foot apart, and the Fenix gives a full screen warning about losing the connection. It happens 30-40 times on a ride, so annoying that I had to shut Ant+ off on the Mini.

Garmin claims there is an upcoming firmware to possibly fix this, but also offering a device replacement. Seems odd that I can’t find mention of anyone else having this Ant+ problem. My Fenix 5X Plus pairs fine to other Ant+ devices.
